So groß der mediale Hype um Alexander Haupert nach dem Sieg über die US-Amerikanische Nationalmannschaft war, so groß ist die Ernüchterung nach der Diagnose der Verletzung, die er sich in der ersten Halbzeit zugezogen hat. Auf Sport1 und ran.de sprach man von dem Starquarterback der deutschen Nationalmannschaft und das er im Finale der Worldgames schmerzlich vermisst wurde (6:14 Niederlage gegen Frankreich). Zu diesem Zeitpunkt wurde ein Kreuzbandriss zwar schon befürchtet, die Gewissheit bekam Haupert aber erst am heutigen Mittwoch. Das vordere Kreuzband ist gerissen, dass Außenband gedehnt und der Innenmeniskus ist ebenfalls in Mitleidenschaft gezogen.
Der OP Termin ist für nächste Woche anberaumt. Das Saisonende für Haupert ist damit besiegelt. Gerade erst von seinem Muskelbündelriss im Oberschenkel zurückgekehrt wird er jetzt seiner Mannschaft im Saisonendspurt fehlen.

Am Samstag starten die Saarland Hurricanes in den zweiten Teil der Saison. 5 Spiele stehen noch aus. Marcus Richardson, der Haupert direkt nach seiner Verletzung schon in Schwäbisch Hall sehr gut vertreten hat, wird erneut als Spielmacher einspringen. Um 17 Uhr wird die Partie gegen die Ingolstadt Dukes im Ellenfeldstadion beginnen.
Die Vorzeichen haben sich auch nach der Verletzung von Haupert nicht wesentlich geändert. Das Team muss in den letzten 5 Spielen von Begegnung zu Begegnung schauen. Jeder Sieg hilft in der momentanen Situation weiter. 3 der 5 Spiele gehen noch gegen die beiden anderen punktgleichen Teams. Es wird also für die Canes und ihre Fans ein heißer Spätsommer werden. Diese Woche gilt es sich voll auf die Dukes zu konzentrieren. Wenn die individuellen Fehler minimiert und die Strafen reduziert werden können, dann ist den Saarländern durchaus ein Befreiungsschlag zuzutrauen. Die Mannschaft hofft auf jeden Fall auf die lautstarke Unterstützung von den Rängen, die am Samstag noch wichtiger geworden ist.

At that point an ACL tear was already feared, unfortunately, those fears were confirmed on Wednesday morning as he received the diagnosis: torn ACL, strained MCL, and a partially torn meniscus. With a planned surgery for next week the season ends for Haupert who had just recently returned to play from a pulled hamstring.

On Saturday the Saarland Hurricanes begin the back half of the season and have five games remaining in the 2017 season. Marcus Richardson, who already filled in quite well for Haupert earlier this season vs. Schwäbisch Hall, is again the next man up and will lead the Hurricanes offensive at Quarterback. The home game versus the Ingolstadt Dukes begins at 17:00 this Saturday in Ellenfeld Stadion.
The season outlook also hasn’t changed much after the second injury from Haupert either way. The Canes will have to take it game by game in the last stretch and every victory will improve the current situation further. Three of the last five matches will be against teams with the same win-loss ratio as the Canes, which could turn into an interesting late summer for the Canes fans. However, this week the full concentration is on the Dukes. If individual mistakes and penalties can be reduced, the Hurricanes every chance to break free from the bottom of the table. The team is definitely hoping for lots of noise and support from their home crowd that has become even more important with the current circumstances.
